At least that is what was done in 1965 model year according to my dealer bulletin. My guess is that 1964 would be much the same.

In some years the books claim the engines changed color by size. For example the 1964 bulletin (I've read it, but I can't find my copy at the moment) shows a turquoise color for the 318 V8 and the larger trucks got a 318 with a turquoise block and red valve covers.

I don't know if that was actually ever done in practice though as I have never found an engine painted like that.

I have pictures of tons of trucks with slant sixes if you would like confirmation of the paint color that actually ended up on trucks.
