I believe the whole US Navy at Norfolk put out to sea to ride out the storm, so I can't fault the Bounty crew for doing the same. I hope it didn't sink. I've seen that boat in person and in the movies and it really is pretty cool. Yes, it's a replica, not a restoration, and yes it has a modern engine room and navigation hidden inside it, but it's still a full-sized wooden sailing ship that really can sail.
I've got to wonder how they "lost power", though. It's one thing to have your M37 get vapor-locked on a hot day and have to hike 5 miles to town, and quite another to have the pumps go out on a wooden ship in the middle of a hurricane.
