All the same rules apply regardless if old or new, link or spring suspension.
Dana 60's have the problem too.
Check for slope(play) in the steering,must have good tight king pins,
Tight spring bushings and shackles.
Round balanced tires are a must.
Proper Toe in,and caster angle.

I have fought this on all my old iron at one time or another.
