(1) remove the rubber - your lungs will appreciate it
(2) put a sheet of scrap metal - tin over the glass to reflect any heat , if the glass does crack it will hit the sheet and not your eye .
(3) A wet rag about an inch away from the screws will help draw heat from the frame but should not affect the screw .
