I don't have a photo handy, but try this. Look at page 21 of the VPW parts catalog (link below) for a picture of 3 different styles of shields. the little notched hole at the top right of the shield goes under the lower right exhaust manifold attaching nut (outside the manifold, under the fat washer). The other point of attachment for the shield is a stud sticking out of the top of the fuel pump. If you have a newer pump without a stud, you'll have to jerry-rig a second point of attachment. The top edge in the pictures is parallel to the block. As you can see, there's nothing special about it, and you could easily make your own using an old coffee can and some tin snips.

As you can also see, it only shields the fuel pump itself from manifold heat, and not much of the line that runs from the pump to the carb. I suspect a lot of the vapor lock problems guys have are a result of that line being routed too close to the manifold or near some other hot piece. A rigid metal line, spaced well away from everything hot, is best. Stock fuel lines tend to go away over the years on old trucks that just have to be made to work a bit longer.

On my "beater" truck that I just put the new engine in, I didn't want to mess with metal line, so I just used a rubber hose, but I tie-wrapped it to the radiator hose to keep it well away from the manifold. That's probably not the best, due to coolant being hot, but it's not nearly as hot as the manifold. There's no heat shield on that engine, but it's been fine for what I use it for, just hauling stuff around my place and rarely get out of 2nd gear low range.
