I always suspected the 5 hp is at 6,000 rpm.

Highest load would be whats quoted, and load is higher at higher seeds, so max load would be at max engine speed.

The newer GM alts like 87 and up, make current at even lower speeds. Junkyards are full of them now. Lower speeds is good, so you can use what torque you have in your pelton system.

I assume you are using a pool pump for the wheel?
