The output RPM of the Pelton wheel is probably not that important as I would think you would be driving the alternator through a pulley and belt system and the alternator RPM could be adjusted through pulley size.

10 GPM at 70 PSI doesn't seem like a lot of water. You say it is 300 watts, which is less than 1/2 horsepower. With the losses involved, it doesn't seem like you would be able to drive most automotive alternators.

Without figuring it out, it seems like I've heard that alternators draw somewhere around 5 horsepower.

You might look at some of the small alternators used on ATV's and motorcycles.

Interesting project. I envy the fact that you have a steady source of water to use for a power project. Hopefully, there are no down stream users who might object.
