Did production of the SM420 start in 1948? I can't find SM420 in my Braden PTO book, but I do find "Chevrolet 4 speed Synchromesh 1948". The only other chevrolet transmission referenced is a 4 speed spur gear 1937 - 1947.
For the Chevrolet 4 speed synchromesh starting in 1948 with left side pto mount, the Braden pto model number appears to be SHC7B. There is a note that Braden purchases all their "S" model PTO's from the Arrow Gear Company and there are two cross references: Braden SHC7B is an Arrow Gear SHC7-2B (chevy helical, the "B" meaning 1 1/4" shaft standard length) and Braden SHC7BL is an Arrow Gear SHC7-3F (chevy front end, the "F" meaning 1 1/4" shaft extra long). I think the extra long shaft is needed to reach the front but I'm just guessing.
The only other Braden model number the book shows for Chevrolet truck applications with synchromesh is YF7S and is for multiple speeds.
