A few forums ago Gordon (The Scottish One) posted something about some sealant he had used and had excellent results. Can't remember if it was silicon based but he said he worked great.

You can access Gordon’s web site via the “WWII Dodge Forum” link at the top of the main Forum page. Let us know what you find. I’ll be replacing my windshield someday, right after I finish the brakes, bearings, seals, engine, body work…..
