May be of interest to those of you that don't have a crank. Response to an earlier post.

Make one!

- Measure the length from the inside back of the starting jaw to the front bumper allowing an inch for the start of the bend,

- On the first bend allow for an 8 inch stroke,

- Make the second bend for the hand area of the crank. Make sure it's long enough for your hand width,

-On the starting jaw end, use a 5/16 rod, tack weld in place facing the stroke end. Measure from the center of the jaw mouth to the back of starting jaw so you will know where to center your rod hole for drilling. Rod hole should be parrellel with the crank stroke.

- Measure the diameter of your crank hole and length for the jaw rod,

Buy a piece of crome molly steel shaft and a grade 5 bolt. Assemble!

When cranking, NEVER CROSS YOUR THUMB OVER THE CRANK. Keep it on the same side as your knuckles. This way if the engine does fire backwards, the crank will slip out of your hand and not break your bones! I always start mine pulling up on the compression stroke. That way I won't mess up my pretty face.
