With some blacksmithing, I was able to use the tank, its straps and some more strap steel and fabricated a couple of off-set connecting pieces. It fits up pretty good now, so I took it back off so I could beat out the dents in the tank. This was to be in the opposite fashion in which my wife beat dents into my head upon discovery of soiled laundry which she swore was clean and folded.

I also decided to open up the tank and clean all the rust and crap out of it. But I was really surprised how clean it was. It also features a protective coating on the inside, which I have now damaged by cutting a nice rectangle out of the sheet metal. Now, along with cleaning it out, I'll need to remove a few inches of the coating all around the inside of the cut-out, so the welding process doesn't blister it. Then recoat. Phil's archive shows several threads on this, it seems Hirsch [sic] is a well-like product. Anyone have any further thoughts on this?
