About 7 years ago my wife and I were in Ft. Lauderdale. WE took the water taxi tour which among other things enables the average person to see the mansions of the mega-rich, which you cannot see from the road.
The captain pointed out one mansion on a beautiful point of land, and said that the owner had made his money from developing the clutch system for auto air conditioner compressors. He went on to say that GM tried to steal his idea, but after a long court battle, the man "won" and gets a royalty on every auto air conditioner sold world wide as he was the inventor and every maker uses the concept which he patented. Not sure how accurate the story is but it sure sounded good.
