Pipe threads are 8 TPI pitch. You said the MC cap is 16 TPI and that sounds about right to me. A guy could no doubt jam a pipe plug into the hole but it would not seal well and it would bugger up the threads.

Personally I've never had use for a pressure bleeder. I just run clear tubing from the loosened bleed screw (attach tubing to screw with a short piece of vacuum hose or fuel line), put the other end of tubing into the MC, and keep pumping the pedal slowly, adding fluid as need be, until there are no more bubbles coming through the clear tubing. Works like a champ, it's a one-man operation, and the equipment is cheap and usable on any vehicle.
