Oh no not back then. Just plain old air cans. I have seen parking brakes on the drive line and others that used cables from an air can on the frame to the slacks but not sure how either of those would work if you lost air.


Before Jakes came along some had a couple hundred gallon tank behind the cab filled with water and had a valve in the cab to spray the brakes in an attempt to keep them cool and not lose them. I know what that's like since I lost mine once and don't EVER want to do that again. It was my fault and is the reason I am heck on adjusting/checking brakes and the reason I hate auto slacks. Not supposed to ever adjust those but they almost never keep them tight enough to suit me.
