If I really wanted it, I wouldn't mind towing it that far, especially because I could take back roads almost all the way. I've flat-towed two M35s via another M35 from Everett to Wallace and never had anything remotely scary happen. I talked to a guy who flat-towed a 5-ton with an M35 over Satus pass. I expect the Sterling weighs about the same or less an any M35 (14,000 lbs) and would be safe to flat-tow on dry roads. No way would I attempt to drive it, especially if the air brakes are as others have described here.

If you want to borrow a good M35 and tow bar and have a go at it, you'd be welcome to. Figure about 5 mpg while towing, 50 mph on the flats and 20 mph up highway hills. I'd guess it's about 1200 miles round trip, so better figure in another pair of front tires for the M35 too.

I've still got a bad feeling that somebody other than the seller still owns it, or thinks he owns it. I'd spend a few days in the area talking to people, and I'd call the DMV, before I moved it.
