You did not state if the number stamped on the engine matches the title. If so, then there should be no problem switching the title to the frame number. I have a truck where the number on the title does not match the number on the engine as it was switched out (Washington State one titled by engine number). However, the number on the title matches the original engine and I have the build card which ties the engine number on the title to the frame number on the truck.

Also look for tags that have been put on the truck to see if you can find the DSP number. Look for stamping on the frame also as it may be a stamping by the State Police on a rebuild or lost title retitle.

I searched for a Dodge engine code DSP. it does not exist. However, I found several references to DSP numbers being stamped into the engine block. The consensus is that they are rebuilt engines and the rebuilder re-stamped the engine. Take a close look to see if the original number is there. It can be recovered by some chemicals that they use in crime labs. Look at the other casting numbers on the block and it should help you identify the engine better.

Below are a couple of links that talk about the DSP number. Most seem to be from the Oregon/California area so it could be a re-builder restamp.

Read this one DSP is lower down in the conversation. It points to Oregon.
