I truly believe that all those 'reality' shows are just as real as wrestling. ;^)
They are "real" entertainment.
I suspect some of the items are 'salted'. Others, the director says "Say, that is an interesting piece. Mind if we pretend to borrow it, and build a show around it? We'll take it to an appraiser, film that. You will get the appraisal, we get a show."
That said, I did buy something once that I wasn't sure quite what it was. Some kind of folk instrument. Garage sale. I paid the asking price. Figured I could double my money. Sold it for 1,750% profit. My Miller tig welder only cost me $12- of the going in money!
