Thanks. Where did you connect your vacuum line, to the manifold directly or to the carb? More than one place to pick up vacuum on your carb? Maybe the cars all came with vacuum advance. It would make sense.

Mines a beater truck and will probably never go more than 10 mph, so I don't now how important peppy acceleration is, so long as it doesn't just stall when I open the throttle. We'll see how it goes. My old motor threw a rod, so no rebuilding it. The "new" one must have sat out with no carb on it for a while because a few of the valves were pretty rusty. I cleaned them up as best I could with a drill and grinding compound, but there's no telling how well they'll hold compression until I fire it up. Hopefully next week. I don't know what kind of carb I have on mind. It's a fairly new 1-barrel, not like any of the old ones on my other rigs. It's off the blown engine and it seemed to work fine there.
