I did think of doing rubber, but for the tooling. What I've got for tooling is patterns I made myself.
Lessee, for rubber shift lever boots, I'd have to sculpt a 3d accordion pleated pattern, apply a fiberglass outer mold, then use a pourable resin that I would need to roto-mold while it cured. Then trim and check for thin spots. Rinse. Repeat.
Better to sew up vinyl.
