Back in 1969, we were sure there'd be moonbuggies running all over the place up there by now. My dad was a rocket man at Boeing. He took us to see "2001" at the Cinerama when it first came out and although we knew the obelisk part was just a movie, we totally believed in the Moon base, and Pan Am flying people up to the space station and all that.

The Apollo Moon program was really the last great adventure that we've ever accomplished. I would be amazed if anybody goes back to the Moon, and I'm sure nobody will ever go to Mars. We're too risk-averse nowadays, as well as being too broke. Plus, the Ruskies aren't poking us in the butt any more. So, those astronauts footprints and moonbuggy racks from ~40 years ago will probably just stay there undisturbed until some meteor hits nearby 100 million years from now.
