John: Is that the same for my '56? I looked at the manuals, and from what I can see 12 volts goes to the gauge and directly to the sensor. The gauge has a resistance of something like 300 ohms, and the sensor changes resistance depending upon the temperature. When that chances, the current in the gauge changes, causing it to increase or decrease.
If the gauge in my truck has an electronic voltage regulator in it that would surprise me.
