The Injector problem was/is being experienced by all three major Diesel Puck-up manufactures in the US. The push for stringer emission constraints drove them to release a design not ready for prime time.

The older injectors put out 1,200 psi at the tip, but the newer engines can put out over 26,200 psi at the tip. In addition they went to a higher number of spray points and smaller holes. These smaller injection points are more lily to be blocked by small particles, and small amounts of water in the fuel can blow them open when it converts to stream when passing through the opening.

The Cummins engine is capable of a lot more power than how it's released in the trucks, but there are trade offs when pumping up the power.

My 3rd Gen has the damn EGR scavenging cam, and it's killed the MPG's that these trucks are capable of while loosing a little power. Should I ever have to go into the engine, that cam is history. I want the MPG back and a little more power would be nice.
