The engine in my dad's explorer has either 4 or 5 seperate timing chains. When we set the timing we needed a special holder and some special tools. I dont know a thing about the workings of the f 150 engines, but id be careful about considering a project without some information about the internals and special tooling required. Id also look into the time required to replace it verses tear down and repair.
