Still, frame flex was the killer.

I once had a '41 1/2t Open Cabin a creek. The 6 1/2' bed was twisted 22°. No way the four rubber mounts at your frame can handle more than a couple degrees.

I'm surprised we haven't heard of more cases like yours. Maybe the engine conversion guys don't take their trailer queens into the creeks? ;^) Or maybe there's more out there, they just don't have a "hose clamp early warning system"?
