Yes, that is exactly what I did on my WC-12 when I switched over to 4.30 third members 2 years ago. I purchased "Stepped Studs" from VPW. They are 3/8-16 X 7/16-20. I removed the old studs and installed the stepped studs in both my 1/2 ton axle housings. both of these postwar third members came out of 1 ton Pilot house series trucks. I also took the axle shafts from these trucks. I then had a shop remove the 1&3/8-16 splined side gears in one of the postwar third members and install the 1&5/16 side gears from a spare 1/2 ton WC that I had sitting around. I used this third member in the front axle housing. The rear postwar third member I left alone and installed it in the rear axle housing . I had to use the pilot house axle shafts that were matched to the third member. The shafts were a bit to long so I had the splined ends cut about a 1/4" to fit snug against the flange of the wheel hub. These shafts have a larger diam. than the 1/2 ton WC shafts and I'm sure are the same Diam. as the 3/4 ton WC shafts. John Zentmeyer's Booklet "Ordnance Miant.-Power Trains and Interchanges:Military/Civilian Trucks 1941 to 1971(Dodge) gives you all the Info you need to know to do all kinds of third member changes. VPW sells it. In the booklet he has a chart that lists all the model years , Stud diam., no of pinions, part numbers, ratios etc of both the 8&3/4" and 9&5/8" ring gear assemblies found in Dodge Military and Civilian trucks. His chart does not list a 4.30 ratio as being available in the 9&5/8" ring gear assemblies, only in the smaller 8&3/4" assemblies. He could be wrong, but his booklet is one that was very well researched using the Hollander Interchange books and other material.
