Use a pinion brake on an open differential, brake heavily and hit a "slick" spot with only one side, such as gravel on pavement. All heck breaks loose as the side with lower traction suddenly starts not merely skidding but spinning opposite to its previous rotation and the other side effectively loses most of it's braking power.

This does not happen with inboard axle based brakes such as mentioned as being on a Jaguar rear end.
