I see what you are saying. Mine was broken off threough 4"" of metal and not near any bolt holes. There was also no pinch point where it was broke and you could see b some bendiing near the break. I suspect someone wanted a new plate with valid tabs. The best we can figure it was taken when we parked it a a car show.
