While I agree with your .375" to 1.00" angle on the spring shackle, I am not sure we are seeing the spring shackle on the same directional angle ?

Lets use the spring center bolt as a reference point. All my trucks, and trucks I have seen, including Detroit Built, have the shackle swing away from the center bolt, not towards it.

If you have a spring that has a large arch, the spring eyes may be to close on the horizontal plane for the shackle to be roughly .375" to 1.00" angle away from the spring center bolt. You may have to swing the shackle towards the spring eye in an attempt to connect the spring to the shackle. This results in the spring shackle angle pointing towards the spring center bolt to some degree.

In 'most' cases no ill will befall the owner. However in the event of a quick and long extension of the axle (ie a deep hole or sharp serious dip), and then a equal quick and fast compression on the spring could result in a flipped shackle. The shackle has flipped towards the spring center bolt and was unable to swing away from the spring center bolt, rather the shackle stayed towards the spring center bolt and was driven up against the shackle hanger/frame and now locked there with the spring holding her fast.

Now its Jack and big bar time. Springs with flipped shackles can break on compressions.
