I didn't know anything about Lana Turner until I moved here. One of my neighbors is a big Lana Turner fan and is the local repository of all things Lana. I think possibly he lives in the old Turner house. Lana Turner's parents had a music store called (reasonably enough) "Turner Music" which occupied the south half of the ground floor of my building, where the Mine Tour and the silver shop are now. I have a picture of it when it was Turner Music, and they had the horn of a gramophone sticking out above the window. I assume this was so they could play the latest hits and people would come in and buy them.

Lana Turner was actually born in Burke, a city that used to be as big as Wallace but is now almost gone, up Canyon Creek at the Star mine.

Back in his day, the most famous Burke boy was Guido Bardelli, aka "Young Firpo", aka "The Wild Bull of Burke", the famous prize-fighter, back when people cared about prize-fighters.

Basically every street and every building in Wallace is full of history, sometimes literally, like when the remains of a body were found in an unused chimney not long ago, or when an old .45-70 rifle was found in a retaining wall that was being demolished.
