The injector is a sensitive part of the equation and can cause significant problems if not operating as it should.
You've got excessive heat in just one cylinder so you first look at the parts of the system that isolate that cylinder from the others, especially when it's not an end cylinder in an inline.
An injector popping off at the wrong pressure will cause the timing on that cylinder to be off. With an IP type system, an injector can cause the amount of fuel being injected to be more/less than the others(in reality it is slightly off anyway but within a spec). It can dribble fuel into the cylinder before/after the intended injection event. These are only the basics.
