Try a small batch first. Think like electroplating, it doesn't take much to cover a surface just a few molecules thick. I save die cast junk, like old thermostat housings or... It is also valuable at scrap yards. Much of what you think is aluminum isn't.
In fact, it's called "electroless plating", plating without using electricity. There may be a recipe on the net for "electroless zinc"?
