Hi all,
I found this forum through meeting Paul (NY) through convoluted web research.
I just bought a 1951 Dodge Power Wagon ambulance. Paid $200 for it! It has very little rust, mostly surface, and a beautiful patina. Apparently, it is an original California truck that saw civilian service in San Diego.Unfortunately, it has a bastardized drive train with a Chevy 6 and Chevy 3-speed gear box. I'd love to put a Cummins 6bt, or 4bt in it, but as I'm on a budget, I may just do a 318.
This is my first DPW and I think I've caught the bug! I've owned 2 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55's, and have had the Series Land Rover affliction for the past 7 years, or so. My daily driver is a 1959 Series ll 88 Land Rover, and I recently rescued a bone stock 1959 Series ll 109 pickup that had been sitting nearly 30 years. Got that truck running pretty quickly and am now in process of rebuilding the water pump, throttle linkage and going through the hydraulic components.
I do a little side business of salvaging cool old vehicles, mostly Land Rover and vintage 4wd trucks, putting them back on the road and selling them, but the DPW is one that I plan to keep!
