Axle rebuild

In the process of ordering parts for rebuild of the 55 FFPW front axle. VPW has a front axle seal and gasket set which includes NOS seals which I assume are the old leather type.

Is it recommended/advisable to use a modern type of seal for the axle and hubs amd if so does anyone have a source and part numbers?
