They sure do work.
I've made a small fortune repairing machinery people pretending to be maintenance greasers used those devices on, often thought of buying a crate of them to give out at Christmas.
Grease, particularly the old soap based greases morph to plastic over time, and blowing a hole through the plastic with pressure is guarandamnteed to cost BIG repair money.
Use one of those devices and you will be taking the machine apart anyhow, so why not just solve the problem correctly to begin with?
