My parts book gives three style, on before the first few hundred, sawtooth from there, later on the knob and wire.

My other "53" has the knob & wire type, and an early 2nd bed. So my sawtooth bed/cab combo, being 2nd, must be an early bed too. earlier than '53.

So, 2nd series bed, 8 bolts hanging out of the headboard makes me think I did something wrong installing the universal head board (from Mars), in the finished truck. It's only got 4 bolts. Center strips do not bolt to headboard, no holes in them. Or did I get short changed?

Clint, is the rear valance wider on the late 2nd to accommodate the shorter boards? IIRC both of my valances are the same, about 2" or less. My long boards and bed strips go to tailgate.
