Maybe isolate the problem into either the flywheel side or the transmission side by shutting off the engine and coasting, and then by revving up the engine with the clutch pushed in and the vehicle stopped and the tranny in gear. Maybe it could be dragging a bit, causing the tranny to turn when you wouldn't think it would. Might always try putting the T-case in neutral and try the tranny both in and out of gear. Too many variables the way it is now.
