It is a Auto-Lite magnetic type gauge.
Do not ground either of the terminals.
Both go to the sender to complete the circuit
and to "heat" thermostatic bimetal strip in the gauge to produce a reading.
The reading is not instantaneous as with other types when powered up.
It takes a few seconds for the strip to heat and move the needle.
The scan is of poor quality but I could email you both pages and you can then zoom in and read them better.
It also explains how to trouble shoot the circuit.
