Stress fractures that were not visible in the wing spar. An A-26 Invader some years ago went over a fire line to close. Smoke jumpers saw it come out of the smoke with the right wing gone, but spiraling violently to the left. The intense updrafts are always right next to intense downdrafts. Opposite reaction physics. It was so violent it tore the wing off and sent it in the opposite spiral!!! The 4Y could have done the same with a weak wing. The C130 that crashed the same year as the 4Y, both wings just folded up.
