Thanks for the pic Dan, it got me thinking. Looks do-able.
One thing I was thinking is wtf went bad? Not the spring losing it tension, because it's not reading fast, it reads slow. Then it hit me that if the magnet lost some power,it wouldn't be attracting the mating part as much. 60 years, without a 'steel'? Sound logical?
