It works!

The other day, I sprayed the plunger and starter mechanism with PB Blaster as they were extremely stiff and let it sit. It was easier today but not great.

I took everyone's advice and cleaned the cables really good, hooked up the battery and STOMPED on the plunger... nothing. Kept stomping on the plunger 4 or 5 more times before I heard something. Tried again and the engine slowly turned over. Kept stomping on the starter and the engine started to turn over easier, like it was getting more juice. I guess I was cleaning the internal contacts?

I decided to take the plugs out and turn it over a few times. It made a much faster, higher pitched whine. At first I thought it was not engaging the engine. Tried a few more times and the same noise. Put the plugs back in and the noise changed back to the regular sound of an engine turning over. I guess with the plugs out it was just turning the motor over that much faster without compression?

I removed the battery and worked on the plunger mechanism. Got it to work much easier, easy enough to be able to actuate it from the firewall side with two fingers.

Unfortunately, because my key does not work, I can't energize the gauge cluster to see if I'm getting oil pressure. Could I use the remote starter I purchased to by pass the key switch by connecting it to the wires on the back of the key switch?

Also, I need to think about how to run a temporary fuel source to the carb so I can attempt a start. Any ideas?

Thanks to all for helping a novice!
