Before it got toooo hot, I took advantage of a day off to ride the big Harley with the Power Wagon battery packed on the rear seat up to my friends farm where my 53 B-3 sleeps.

Getting away from the big city into one of the few rural areas left in NJ, I become part of the environment. I can feel the temperature change as my bike thunders up and down the hills. The aromas, most of them pleasant, surround me. The postcard-like views of the lakes and hilltops are unobstructed.

As the suburbs are left in the dust, the feeling of being closer to the earth sets in. The farm is a welcome sight. As I lug the bike up the grass covered farm road, the horses take notice, the chickens and ducks scatter, and the dogs come running to greet me.

I park next to the shed that I built to house my Power Wagon. Gary who once owned a crew cab W-500, comes by to say hello and to see how the old girl will start up.

She has been sitting since December 2011 when I finally brought her back to the farm.

After, pulling the distributor cap off to make sure the points are not stuck, I dropped in the battery. She took just 3 attempts at approx 10 seconds each to start.

Nothing like simple old iron.

The Harley rested while I took the B-3 out for a workout. I got some gas, drove around Upper Greenwood Lake, then down a six mile hill into Warwick. Wanting to continue to parts unknown, I returned to the farm.

Spent time catching up with Gary as the chickens sang.

Put the Power Wagon away and rode the Harley through the picture perfect landscape on the trip back home.

Not a bad way to spend a day off.
