Yellow pine is tough stuff, if you can get it in your neighborhood.

Severe Duty, that bed is a bit short. But if mounted with a gap at the front. might look better than some of the home made stuff that guys call 'restored'. The FFPW beds are 54" wide. If yours is only 48, you might be able to use a sheet of 1" floor ply wood.

Or you may be able to find a 9' bed from a later truck in your local junk yards. It can be cut down, and would be very nearly proper.
