My red 93 W350 I bought with 18K miles had a Getrag. I ran it overfilled with an elbow on the filler...she packed it in pulling a hill in Idaho at 20K miles! :)
It was still bone stock at that stage but I was pulling about a 10K lb load in 4th gear. Once I got to the top of the hill it just didn't shift properly ever again. I limped home & Paul in NY got that transmission & if I'm not mistaken, his transmission guy in NY told him it wasn't even rebuildable.
I've never had an NV4500 go after modifying the 5th gear nut....not even running 700hp through one. My NV5600 was getting a bit sloppy in that same 93 W350 when I sold it but I was hard on that transmission & it was an early NV5600 with the 1 1/4" input shaft..but I doubt that was an issue. I think it just didn't like the engine modifications :)
I firmly believe the NV4500 is the strongest manual transmission Dodge has ever used to date. It's definitely the transmission of choice for the guys that modify these engines to have ridiculous power.
