The pry bar is a great idea and would load the bearings in a consistent manner. I'm not sure what the preload on "new" duplex bearings are but you can buy these assembled in various preloads from 0.004" endfloat to 0.002" preload. Thats why I went with the 0.002" preload value. Mine is in the front axle as well so I will check it out after running it a while. On the rebuild it was smooth and had steady torques so I was happy. The cost of these bearings is crazy but by bying them separately they are not too bad. I thinks they were around $ 180 or so for the parts. Ths spacer can be made to the same dimensions as the adjusting shims only thicker. I think they were in the 0.360" range to set them up.. Terry
