After I was quoted $125 for a rebuilt alternator on my old Dodge, I took it apart and fixed it myself for 75 cents.
An alternator rebuild is one of the easiest things to do, at least on the older alternators. I suspect it's the same on newer alternators, but I don't have any experience with anything built this century.
You can get rebuild kits or individual parts at the auto parts places.
Just mark pieces as you take them apart so you can keep the same orientation when you put them back together.
On yours, I suspect the brushes are just stuck to the commutator.
