That's the Honolulu my father used to tell me about, though he wasn't there for VJ day. After the war was over, they transferred him to the Pacific for the remainder of his enlistment, delivering B17s from the states to the Philippines. I actually still have one of his flight logs from one of those deliveries. He went back to Honolulu after he retired from Boeing and was amazed at how much everything had changed. The last time he'd been there, the only hotel was the "Royal Hawaiian".
