Thanks for the detailed info. I have a SBC bell and a couple of Dodge bells around for comparison. There's enough room on my mill, so boring another hole or two, or possibly adding a boss is less of an issue than the input shaft. The GM input bears little resemblance to either Dodge input, so unless I can find an input shaft it may be prudent to drop the 540 and find a 435.
Too bad. The ratios in the 540 seem ideal.
