Drop the pan. It's not that bad a job and gives you a chance to clean out the junk from the bottom of the pan.
Mine was leaking from the same place as yours and it was the rear gasket strip that had dried out and cracked from age. As the gasket shrank, it pulled apart leaving a 1/8" gap in the middle.
If you find that the area inside the bell housing is dry, it's probably not the rear seal. The piece that you unbolt to get to the clutch, may however, be wet as it sits low. Oil there doesn't necessarily indicate a rear seal leak.
