A distributor with vacuum advance will retard the timing under acceleration. (low vacuum = retarded) This is to get the timing back under the detonation/preignition threshhold. (power is reduced) If yours has a vacuum line to it, it's a vacuum advance dist. If not, you have a mechanically advanced dist.

As to power, an 80-90 hp 230 don't go too far against 5000+ pounds of vehicle. With 5:83 gears, get used to 42 mph and enjoy the scenery. These are low speed vehicles. Try advancing the timing until it knocks under load then retard it til it goes away. Todays gas behaves differently than the leaded gas these engines were designed around.

An electric pump is not needed if the engine mounted pump is ok.
