Brake Boosters?

I had the brake booster in my '55 C3PW rebuilt last year as it was leaking fluid that would get sucked into the engine. The booster has stopped boosting. It's not leaking into the vacuum system and I can hear and feel strong vacuum in the filter opening. I hate to buy another one, has anyone ever had one of these Midland boosters apart, or have any thoughts on how they actually work? I see Napa has them for around $175, but I'd like to fix it myself if it's something simple like a seal. Anyone got any thoughts or suggestions,
